Don’t let termites turn your home into an all-you-can eat buffet!
A part of the cockroach family, termites are stealth insects that can wreak havoc on your property, and lead to thousands of dollars being spent for damages. You have to be vigilant in making sure that they do not invade your home or exterior. This means being able to identify the signs of infestation.
There are at least five different classifications for termites, but subterranean and dry-wood termites are the major ones responsible for damaging man-made structures. Basically, the dry-wood species lives mainly on wood and is not connected with the soil. The subterranean group lives under the surface of the earth, building colonies. They all love cellulose, found in wood as well as paper, and even carpet.
Termites can remain obscure for a long period of time. Unless you are extremely observant, you will not notice their existent until after you see the results of their hidden activities. Destruction in the form of crushed wood, chewed electrical power lines and PVC pipes, and even sheets of thin lead is not unheard of, when dealing with termites.
If you observe wood shavings around the window frames, little pencil-shaped tubes of mud proceeding up the sides of structural buildings, or mud mounds around your steps or patio. You may have termites. You may also see piles of wings or deposits of pellets around areas that have shredded or pockmarked wood. If you recognize any of these signs, it would be wise for you to call someone who is familiar with treating, and identifying insects that invades people’s homes and lawns.
